Author’s take:

One can say that Photography is not about expensive gears but about the creativity which is partially correct to me. Ultimately its the way you create the picture not the way your gears allow you to take, otherwise we would have got professional photographers in every corners of the society.

However, considering the target you got to have the perfect combination of both the Camera body as well as the lens.

My recommendation will be different for different filed of Photography. Let us consider the following categories of photography :

Landscape/Portrait/Wedding/Street Photography:

For Landscape photography I will undoubtedly recommend the Canon 90D mainly because of the dynamic range it provides. The color details is always better in Canon and it looks more real. The articulating display plays a major role selecting the Canon as so many times you may need to get the cameras to ground level, where it is pretty much helpful.

Wildlife/Sports Photography:

For Wildlife Photography my recommendation will be the Nikon D7200. Its because of the excellent low light result that the Nikon D7200 provides. However, a few may disagree with me considering the speed of Canon 90D (the burst speed being 10 fps vs 6 fps). But the second factor that I have considered is the lens combination and the price.

For any beginner or semi professional wildlife photographer the best combination has to be the Nikon D7200 + Nikon AF-S Nikkor 200-500MM F/5.6E ED VR(out of the two) considering the price will be around 1.5 Lakhs only(in India) . However, for Canon the best combination will be Canon 90D + Canon EF 100-400mm F4.5-5.6L is II USM. But the price will be around 2.7 or 2.8 Lakhs. In that range the Nikon D500+ Nikon AF-S Nikkor 200-500MM F/5.6E ED VR will be a killer for sure. Then why would anyone invest that much of money!

For Videography:

For Videography the Canon 90D will always be preferred any day. Not only does it have the Dual Pixel Autofocus technology, but also it supports 4K. The maximum resolution of the videos will always be better out of these two.

So overall, its 55-45 to the Canon 90D considering the fact that it has latest processor and some latest technology which we have already discussed. So overall Canon 90D wins the fight of Nikon D7200 vs Canon 90D.
