It will take around 2-3 hours from Shillong to Dawki and around 30 minutes from Dawki to Shongpeng(situated in the Dawki-Jowai Roadside). Dawki is a town located in West Jaintia Hills district of Meghalaya, India. This town is a must visit destination for travelers. It is located on the border between India and Bangladesh. How to get to Krang Suri:
1. Guwahati to Jowai to Krang Suri and it is almost 170 kms from Guwahati and the road condition is excellent. But let us assure you that it will take 30-45 minutes more than your expected time duration as you won’t be able to skip so many eye-catching locations in between. So we suggest you be a bit flexible with timings.
2. Shillong to Dawki to Krang Suri. It is around 70 kms long road where you can choose to enjoy both the tourist spots i.e. Dawki and Krang Suri.
4. Dainthlen Fall waterfall
About 2 km away from Cherrapunjee and 5 kms away from the main road. The key element of this fall is a large number of natural potholes, much bigger in size and dimension than the regular ones on the metallic roads. When you climb the top of the hill nearby the fall, you will get to see the 360 degree view of the nearby beautiful places. The potholes and the hilly surface make it a mesmerizing tourist destination. According to locals, there was a huge demon python by the name of Thlen who was drenched in greed and power. But some brave men caught the animal and destroyed its hood with a huge stone near this fall and some of the marks present on the stones are still reminiscent of the violent struggle of that snake. As a result, this fall got this name. The turbulence of this fall gathers a lot of steam during the monsoons compared to the rest of the year. 5. Wei Sawdong Waterfall:
The 3 step fall is one of the most beautiful tourist destinations of Meghalaya. But, it is less explored and less crowded which makes it even more beautiful. The beauty of this fall is beyond expression. However, it also tests your physical strength and ability to as one has to trek(go down) for around 150-200 meters without any proper stairs and it may take up to 45-75 minutes. The villagers have made the path and stairs using bamboo trees. This fall is the outskirts of Cherrapunjee and around 1.5 kms away from DainThlen falls and it is a must visit place for those who love trekking and adventure.

6. Double Root bridge of Nongriat
The root bridges are available in so many parts of Meghalaya and some of the bridges are even believed to be hundreds of years old, although no one knows their exact age. The most famous root bridge being the one that is available in Mawlynnong.
There is another famous root bridge which is the Umshiang Double root bridge which is found in Nongriat and it is 95 kms away from the bridge that is available in Mawlynnong. Though the most famous part of Nongriat being the double root bridge, it also offers so many more things to enjoy. The Rainbow fall being one of them. The beauty and cleanliness of the village is also outstanding. The root bridge is undoubtedly remarkable and its surroundings feel like a place where the magic happens. 8. Laitlum Canyons
This place is an hour’s drive away from Shillong right there on the Mizoram highway and nearby Smit Village. Laitlum Canyons literally translates to “end of hills” and it does justice to its name. Most of the time the place is covered with fog and the visibility remains less than 5 meters. No matter what is the temperature in Shillong(Police Bazar), but you will always(mostly) find this place a very cold one. The temperature remains very low due to the continuous fog as well as wind. 9. Nohkalikai Falls:
Nohkalikai Waterfalls is one of the most visited which will be in any list of Best Places in Meghalaya and it is around 5 km from Cherrapunjee and is the fourth highest waterfall in the world. It is a magnificent waterfall viewable easily from the roadside viewpoint. The ideal time to visit the waterfall is during monsoon where the waterfall is most active. How it got the name NohKaLikai:
This fall has a sad legend associated with it. Noh Ka Likai means “the leap of Likai”. As per the legend, a young woman named Ka Likai, who had a daughter from her earlier marriage remarried. Her new husband loathed his stepdaughter as he was not in favor of girl staying with them. But out of jealousy, he decides to kill her and When Ka Likai was away working and he slaughters the girl and uses her flesh to cook a meal.
After returning home from work, Likai was surprised that her husband had prepared an evening meal for her. She ate the meal without suspicion and had no inkling about the gory act her husband had conducted. But, she later discovered her daughter’s fingers in the betel-nut basket. Distraught with grief and remorse, she rushed to the nearby cliffs and threw herself over the precipice adjoining the waterfalls. The fall has ever since been known as Nohlakikai. Mawsynram is one of the best places of Meghalaya is a village in the East Khasi Hills district of Meghalaya, 65 kilometers from Shillong. It is reportedly the wettest place on earth with an average annual rainfall of 11,000 872 millimeters. According to the Guinness Book of World, Records Mawsynram received 26,000 millimeters of rainfall in 1985. It is located at an altitude of about 1400 meters, 16 kilometers west of Cherrapunjee in the Khasi Hills in the state of Meghalaya.
The name of the village contains Maw, a Khasi word meaning stone and thus might refer to certain megaliths in the surrounding area. Khasi Hills are rich with such megaliths laborers who work outdoors often wear full-body umbrellas made from bamboo and banana leaf. One of the most fascinating and beautiful features in the region are the living bridges spanning rain-soaked valleys for centuries. Locals have been training the roots of rubber trees to grow into natural bridges far outlasting man-made wooden structures that brought in just a few years. The bridges are self-strengthening becoming more substantial over time as the root systems grow.
